Earth Hour is a global campaign that everyone can support, simply by turning off the lights!

Last year, 187 countries and territories took part in Earth Hour, making it the biggest one to-date. 3,000 landmarks across the world were switched off for a full hour as we made a united effort to reduce climate change.

This year, Park Property Management wants all our residents to take part by turning off the lights and any unnecessary electronics in your apartment for 1 hour starting at 8:30pm on March 24th. When the world comes together for a cause, great things can happen!

One hour a year is a great start, but we can do more when we make simple changes to the way we live.

We all know how to reduce, reuse, and recycle but sometimes it can be tempting to ignore those rules to make life more convenient. Sticking to the three R's is easier when you start with what you bring into your apartment. If you don't have lots of storage for recycling bins and compost pails, avoid purchasing anything that will leave you with something to throw away. Choose items that are available in bulk, look for reusable packaging, and instead of using disposable food wraps, purchase a reusable beeswax wrap from Abeego.

There are several ways we can reduce our carbon footprints without making major lifestyle changes. It only takes one small change to have a big impact.

Other ways you can contribute to reducing energy costs:

  • Walk, ride a bike, or use public transit
  • Buy local (everything from food in season to clothing and services)
  • Have shorter showers
  • Unplug small appliances when not in use
  • Use a slow cooker more often
  • Adopt Meatless Mondays and avoid eating meat just one day a week
  • Use LED lightbulbs

Start slowly by picking one or two suggestions to build a routine. Then, if you want, make more small changes when you are comfortable with it. Sharing your success will help inspire those around you to make a change too!
